Henley’s 1 Year Cake Smash

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was when Lindsay asked me to shoot her daughter Henley’s one year cake smash session.  I mean, what’s better than capturing the cutest one year old I have ever met as she dives into her very own cake?  I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I do.  P.s. sorry there are so many, it was hard to pick!

Evergreen Brickworks Engagement with Sara and Hassan

Seems like yesterday I was out partying with Sara and the crew during our undergrad years…. things haven’t changed much aside from more responsibility, a career, a great guy in her life – she’s still the fun, happy, tell it like it is girl. These two wanted to do their engagement photos at the Evergreen Brickworks in Toronto – great location, great couple.. I would have to be a terrible photographer to mess this one up Toronto wedding photography Toronto wedding photographer

Without further ado…

We later jumped down to the Distillery District for some oysters at The Oyster House – if you have never been and like seafood, I would highly recommend!

Couldn’t have asked for more from these two – absolutely lovely couple.  So glad they found each other!  Absolutely amazing location – for any of you photographers / couples looking for a good shooting spot, either the Distillery District or the Evergreen Brickworks are fantastic.

Till next time,

Chris

Oakville Bronte Harbour Photo Session with Zaid and Liza

Oakville Wedding and Engagement Photography by Chris Liehmann

I first met Zaid’s family back when my friend Sara (engagement session coming soon!) introduced me to her good friend Rand and her fiance Antonio, who was needed a photographer to shoot her engagement party (before I was blogging so no post – yet).  I later shot Antonio’s brother Wisam and his fiance Lubna (you can check out their post here).  I always tell people one of the reasons I love shooting weddings is because of the immense hospitality you receive from the couple’s families.  Rand and Antonio’s families are the best – I love them.  When Zaid (Rand’s brother) asked me if I would be willing to do a photo session with him, how could I say no!

After my recent move to Oakville, I was on the lookout for good shooting spots.  Right in my backyard is Oakville’s Bronte Harbour – amazing location!

Another part I love about being a wedding/engagement photographer is getting to know my couples.  Turns out Liza lives and goes to school in Sweden and they only see each other 2-3 times a year.  For those of you who live an hour’s drive apart and call it long-distance… well let’s just say things could be worse Toronto wedding photography Toronto wedding photographer

The one good thing about long-distance is that it makes you cherish every moment you have with your partner.  I am so happy and honoured that they picked me to capture their time together!

Thanks for reading,

Chris

Alice and Lester’s Rainy Toronto Engagement on Centre Island

Toronto Engagement Photography by Chris Liehmann

I realized about a year ago that I wouldn’t be able to take on every couple that wanted me to shoot their wedding – not because I was too busy, but because my shooting style is heavily dependent on who the couple is.  I realized that how a couple interacted with each other played a big role in the kinds of photos I was looking to bring out – photos that capture real moments, photos that people will look back on in 20 years and remember how they felt in that moment.  When I first met with Alice and Lester, I had a feeling they would be one of those couples – I was right!

This is their story…

I had wanted to head to Centre Island for a long time to do a shoot – after Alice and Lester suggested it, how could I say no.  The forecast for the day was a bit unpredictable – low chance of rain and minimal amounts if it did.  The weatherman was wrong as usual.  On the ferry ride over, it poured – did I mention I forgot an umbrella.  Despite the leaking ferry roof, I managed to snag a couple shots of the two of them on the boat.

It was still pouring once we arrived at Centre Island so I did a mad dash to the nearest covered area.  I made Alice and Lester head out into the rain so I could make something positive out of the terrible weather.  The photo below doesn’t show it, but Lester’s back is soaked.  I stupidly made them go under a roof drain thinking it would make for a great shot – instead they got soaked! Definitely not my smartest decision as a Toronto engagement photographer – live and learn – next time I will bring a bigger umbrella.

This is exactly the kind of shot I love.  These two were great, they made my job easy!

I always wear my waterproof goretex hiking shoes on every shoot – except for this one.  How was I supposed to know I would have to step into an ankle deep puddle to get this next shot?  Sigh…

What crazy weather, first pouring rain, then golden sun.  Perfect.

I have wanted to get a shot like this for a long, long time.  Swans, a plane, Toronto skyline, what more could I ask for.

Toronto wedding photography Toronto wedding photographer

I had such a great time with these two.  Thanks to Alice and Lester for putting up with my antics and tromping all over the island for a couple hours!

Looking forward to their wedding in a few weeks time!

Hamilton Outdoor Engagement Session – Lindsay and Taylor

Hamilton outdoor engagement session by

Toronto Wedding Photographer

Chris Liehmann

I can’t remember the first time I met Taylor – likely back in the 10th or 11th grade, possibly on one of the canoe trips we participated in as part of the outdoor club at our local high school, or perhaps snowboarding at the local ski hill (elevation likely less than 100m).  He is an easy-going, loyal, hard-working kind of guy and I can’t be happier that he found Lindsay – together they make an amazing couple!

This is their story…

Our first location was the Dundas Conservation Area (will link to it at the bottom of the post), a place that never fails to disappoint.

When Lindsay asked if they could bring along their newest family addition – Gary – how could I say no?  While making the day  much more interesting, I’m pretty sure I wound up with at least as many pictures of their puppy as I did of them.

Just one of those lucky times when you happen to have cowboy boots, a mossy log and very green nature!

I wish I could take credit for this idea, but I can’t – it was all Lindsay.  Can’t wait to see how many amazing DIY items are at their wedding!

Next we moved next door to Webster’s Falls, another location I have shot at a number of times.  We were definitely surprised to find a fence up blocking the way to the path that leads to the base of the falls.  Apparently, its closed for a number of years for restoration purposes.  After scrambling over a chest high fence (not an easy task), we managed to find a way down.  Best part was the base was virtually devoid of the usual crowd of people, the only reason I was able to manage this shot…

Heather and Norm – A Grimsby Engagement Session

Heather and Norm – what can I say – they are hilarious, kind, generous, down to earth and most importantly, absolutely perfect for each other.  Although I look forward to all my photo sessions, I have to say this was one of the ones I couldn’t wait to shoot.  Without further ado, this is Heather and Norm’s engagement story…

The day started out at the first place I met them… the second cup in downtown Grimsby.  Having only ever noticed the Grimsby signs on the highway on my trek from Hamilton to Niagara Falls or St. Catharine’s, I was surprised at how beautiful the town was, nestled against the escarpment.  I can only image how amazing it will look for Heather and Norm’s fall wedding.  Definitely proud to say I can now officially count myself as one of the photographers in Grimsby!

After playing around downtown, we headed to Heather’s grape farm – they used to (or still do) supply grapes to make Welch’s grape juice!

Jamaica!

I had the amazing opportunity to shoot my very first destination wedding this past January in Negril, Jamaica.  I have been to a number of Caribbean destinations and Jamaica has been my favourite so far.  Maybe it was the 5-star resort, or maybe it was the amazing jerk chicken hut on the beach, either way, I can’t wait to go back!

Here are a couple non-wedding related shots from my trip.  Hope you enjoy!

Michelle and Sean … NOT an engagement session – by London Wedding Photographer Chris Liehmann

By

London Wedding Photographer

Chris Liehmann

Over Christmas, I took a couple shots of my sister and her boyfriend Sean since they had never had any “professional” shots taken.  I figured we would forget about the professional and just go out and take some photos after it had snowed.  I got permission to publish these photos only if I made it quite clear that they weren’t engagement photos .. so hopefully I don’t get in trouble!

I have known my sister for a long time .. all my life.. and Sean for much less time.  Already, I can tell these two work really well together and I’m excited to see where things go for them!

Here are a couple shots … hope you like them Toronto wedding photography Toronto wedding photographer

Charan portrait session – train tracks and Webster’s Falls

When I first met Charan, we sat down and I asked her what kind of photos she would like to have taken.  She responded by telling me that she wanted me to capture where she is in her life right now.  Awesome! An abstract shoot that would allow me to flex my creative muscle!  I had no idea where to begin.

I asked her to tell me about her life and everything that has lead her to this point.  Eventually, I discovered that she feels as if she has been wandering, often with little direction, and is now at a decision point in her life.  She feels change approaching.  This was my task – capture a mindset, a feeling and emotion.

Here is how it turned out…
