After our chilly winter engagement session at Blue Mountain, I was super excited to shoot with these guys during warmer weather. We started the session at High Park and then moved to Polson Pier for some great sunset shots with the Toronto skyline as a backdrop. Hope you enjoy!

I realized about a year ago that I wouldn’t be able to take on every couple that wanted me to shoot their wedding – not because I was too busy, but because my shooting style is heavily dependent on who the couple is. I realized that how a couple interacted with each other played a big role in the kinds of photos I was looking to bring out – photos that capture real moments, photos that people will look back on in 20 years and remember how they felt in that moment. When I first met with Alice and Lester, I had a feeling they would be one of those couples – I was right!
This is their story…
I had wanted to head to Centre Island for a long time to do a shoot – after Alice and Lester suggested it, how could I say no. The forecast for the day was a bit unpredictable – low chance of rain and minimal amounts if it did. The weatherman was wrong as usual. On the ferry ride over, it poured – did I mention I forgot an umbrella. Despite the leaking ferry roof, I managed to snag a couple shots of the two of them on the boat.
It was still pouring once we arrived at Centre Island so I did a mad dash to the nearest covered area. I made Alice and Lester head out into the rain so I could make something positive out of the terrible weather. The photo below doesn’t show it, but Lester’s back is soaked. I stupidly made them go under a roof drain thinking it would make for a great shot – instead they got soaked! Definitely not my smartest decision as a Toronto engagement photographer – live and learn – next time I will bring a bigger umbrella.
This is exactly the kind of shot I love. These two were great, they made my job easy!
I always wear my waterproof goretex hiking shoes on every shoot – except for this one. How was I supposed to know I would have to step into an ankle deep puddle to get this next shot? Sigh…
What crazy weather, first pouring rain, then golden sun. Perfect.
I have wanted to get a shot like this for a long, long time. Swans, a plane, Toronto skyline, what more could I ask for.
I had such a great time with these two. Thanks to Alice and Lester for putting up with my antics and tromping all over the island for a couple hours!
Looking forward to their wedding in a few weeks time!
